Week 15/52Dayton Photgrapher_0099Dayton Photgrapher_0098Dayton Photgrapher_0096Dayton Photgrapher_009715/52- Oh wow. Last week was something else..

I spent the beginning of the week sick and in bed. The middle of the week catching up on my missed workouts and work. & the end of the week in the hospital with my boyfriend. Last week was one of those fluke weeks.. y’know the ones where everything goes wrong and it all seems like a big practical joke is being played on you. “Hello, is Ashton out there? Am I being Punk’d?” Seriously, my week went just like that.

Picture 1: Brandon spent the weekend in the hospital due to having an irregular heart beat, or commonly know as “Afib.” Poor man, I felt so bad for him. He was hooked up to everything imaginable in the hospital to keep an eye on his heart rate, and he was barely able to move without some sort of beep or buzz waking him from his sleep.

I was happy to spend most of the weekend by his side. We watched movies, held hands, and snuck a few bites of unhealthy heart food every now and then. I took portraits of him sleeping and I actually got some really beautiful photos in the ER, however, I am respectfully fulfilling his requests not to share any of them (hmph).

Pictures 2-4: Brandon was released from the hospital Sunday with a steady heart rate. He was very grateful to be home and with his guitar. ❤
I just love that third picture of him. He seems so at peace.

Sometimes we all have to have bad weeks, it’s life. I’m just happy that we both have our health back in order and that we are starting this new week off on a good note. I’m hoping to get back on my blogging game this week, I was having major withdrawals.

Cheers, folks.

In an effort to reach my goal of learning to cook, I have decided to try my hand at least one new recipe a week and blog about it. This week, I decided to have a go at lettuce wraps. I have been craving lettuce wraps for a few weeks and I just finally remembered to run to the grocery on Monday to grab a head of lettuce and other veggies needed.

This dish is super simple. All you need is a bunch of veggies, Simple Truth Meatless Crumbles, brown rice, and your favorite teriyaki sauce. I chose to not go off of a recipe and throw things I liked together, feel free to do the same.

I cooked the meatless crumbles in teriyaki sauce (I chose a sweet, pineapple teriyaki), while I chopped up the veggies/toppings. As far as veggies and toppings go, I chose bell peppers, carrots,  zucchini, tomato, and jalapenos.

After the meatless crumbles are cooked, you can plate everything. I made a little station for Brandon and I to make our own wraps.

The sweetness of the teriyaki and the spiciness of the jalapeno was a perfect combo.
This dish was an easy, healthy fix and I’ll definitely be making this again soon.

I had the pleasure of documenting Paul and Michelle’s special day a little over a week ago. They had a beautiful, intimate wedding at Paul’s house in Yellow Springs. It was a pleasure to spend time with them and their family. I can’t wait to share all the wonderful photos with the bride and groom. Here are a few of my favorites, enjoy! ❤

Arizona Part 2

The weather in Arizona was FANTASTIC. Besides hiking, we spent our time by pool, checking out local dining, and at a couple Reds’ spring training games.

Some of my favorite photos came from our time at the pool. I sure looked silly laying on the edge, but I love the angle that I captured above.

Always repping Ohio, everywhere I go. ❤

I used to spend a lot of my high school days trying to capture abstract photographs. I would try to make my photographs look like paintings, much like a drawer or painter would make their illustration look like a picture.  The way that the water reflected and refracted the Arizona sun was mesmerizing and brought me back a few years. Y’know, as much as I love the art of photojournalism and lifestyle photography (capturing and displaying things the way they are from a point of view), I will always have a special place in my heart for abstraction and distortion.

I’ll leave you with an adorable photo of my boyfriend resting on my leg. I adore him. ❤

One of my 23 before 24 goals is to travel more often, and I have been taking every chance I get, as long as it fits within my budget. I was lucky enough and very thankful to tag along with Brandon to Arizona this past week. His family put together a nice trip to celebrate his graduation in the spring.

In an effort to keep this post short and sweet, I’m going to break our trip up into 3 posts with 3 different sets of pictures (you know the pictures are my favorite part). : D

Arizona: Part 1

Our travels were warm, beautiful, and quite eventful. However, while we were hoping for a smooth vacation, we had a couple of bumps in the road. We started out by missing our flight on Sunday and spent the WHOLE day (7:00 am – 5:50 pm) at the Columbus Airport waiting on the second flight heading to Phoenix. I spent the morning crying in Max & Erma’s, because I was tired from lack of sleep the night before and because we both felt pretty stupid. After a short nap on the couches I was good to go, and honestly, I felt it was nice spending the day next to Brandon. I got some work done, and he got caught up on House of Cards (we can’t wait for the 3rd season), we ate Coldstone and drank a few beers at the brewery. In that situation, you have to find the positives or else we would have spent 1/5 of our vacation upset.

One of my favorite days of the trip was the day we hiked Camelback Mountain. The view was gorgeous, but the hike was intense. I thought I was an avid hiker, until we started trudging up the mountain. Maybe it was because I had a long winter off, or maybe it was just because this was nothing like I was used too, but this hike seriously kicked my butt. It also didn’t help that I was carrying a backpack, and had a heavy camera around my neck. However, I think I got some decent shots despite my exhaustion.

Did you see the part where you literally have to rock climb!? Luckily there was a pole to grab on to, but my hands were sweating and I thought I was going to slip and fall to my death. LOL Brandon and I have plans to go back and do it again someday. We hope to at least be in great physical shape so we can kick the hikes butt and not vice versa.
